What are these "Prints"

you are selling here?

Great question! I have always made art myself, and have worked as an art handler installing exhibitions and working with the most prominent artists of our time for world-class museums all over the US.  More recently I ran print production for one of the largest print houses in the country; in that role I became aware not only of a need for high-quality, affordable decorative art, but also became quite adept at the skills needed to fulfill it! Armed with the tools to make my own art available to a wider audience as fine art prints, I set up shop in beautiful Santa Fe, capital of this Land of Enchantment! Many Field Studies Editions prints begin as small paintings that I execute in gouache (an opaque, watercolor-like medium) that are then scanned, retouched and printed. All of the colors and minute details of the original are captured and reproduced impeccably! Other images in the collection originate from antique sources, such as rare, out-of-print books or ephemera. The Mineral Kingdom series are minerals in my collection that I have photographed myself and offer as prints. Each print is created using a top-of-the-line, 12 pigment Giclée printer using 12 separate inks that are rated for over 200 years permanence... these are archival, fine art inks; very different from what a small home printer uses. I print on thick, 100% cotton (tree free!) acid-free fine art watercolor paper that is produced in the UK. The resulting piece of art is something permanent, substantial, and beautiful... inspired by my love for the spirit and splendor of the American Southwest; something I have created from start to finish so that you may experience that magic in your own home!

what is the

"Hanging Canvas Chart"

Option that you Offer?

Remember those maps and anatomical diagrams that used to hang up near the blackboard in your classroom... the ones with wooden rods mounted top and bottom? Do they still use these in classrooms? Do blackboards still exist? Alas, I don't know the answer to those questions, but I can tell you that most of my images are available as hanging canvas prints reminiscent of those old classroom stalwarts!  It is a perfect, ready-to-hang solution for anyone eager to get some art on the walls without going to the extra expense of framing! They are printed using the same permanent, fine art  Giclée inks, but instead of watercolor paper, I print your chosen image on a fine, gesso-primed cotton canvas. I sew channels at the top and bottom, then slip in hardwood dowels; the bottom dowel keeps the print weighted so that it hangs nicely. The top dowel has two eyelets attached... the prints can be easily hung on two nails (which will be hidden by the print when hung) using these eyelets. The prints arrive also with a string tied into the eyelets, so that if you like that look, you may simply hang the print from a single nail! I love these, and they look especially fetching with some of the mineral specimen charts and Kachina chart! The hanging canvas prints require a full two day production time, as each is printed and sewn to order.

You sell Jewelry too?

What's that about?

Yes! My love for gems, minerals, crystals and plain old rocks was instilled in me at a very early age by my grandparents, who were avid rockhounds and lapidary artists in the Pacific Northwest. At one point I acquired a crystal I really wanted to wear, but I didn't like the look of any of the traditional mounting techniques... glued into cheap metal findings, or wire-wrapped... Yuck! So I set about learning to carefully drill crystals... a gentle and elegant solution that allows me to slip a sterling silver or 14k gold chain directly through the crystal, where it picks up the energy of the stone and transmits it to the wearer! I don't go a day without wearing one, and once you try one on yourself, you'll see why! All of the stones are sourced from mine owners whose energy, intentions, and ethics I trust, and each completed necklace is bathed in the rays of both a full and new moon, then rinsed in a local hotspring to clear it of any accumulated energy so that it reaches you clear and ready to assist you on your journey! These are all handmade by me from start to finish; all of the clasps and jumprings are soldered, not just pinched closed, for strength and longevity!

How will my prints

arrive? Flat? Rolled up?

If you order 11" x 14" prints, or 16" x 20" prints, they will ship flat. They are packaged in attractive clear plastic sleeves with a rigid whiteboard backing and a contact card. Any larger size (and all of the canvas hanging format prints) will ship rolled up in a USPS "triangle tube". I have had great success shipping this way! If you order a mixture of smaller and larger sizes you may get two separate shipments, unless I determine that I can safely roll up your smaller prints with the larger ones.

It must be expensive to ship prints, No?  Shipping within the Continental US is always free! Lets face it, a certain online mega-retailer has forever spoiled us with free 2-day shipping! While I can't promise two day shipping (most prints are shipped out within two days of receiving the order, then travel via USPS priority mail, where an additional 2-3 business day transit time is incurred), I love making it easy for you to acquire beautiful new art... Go ahead and press "BUY"  and let me take care of the rest! Wholesale orders are exempt from our free shipping offer; actual shipping cost will be billed on all wholesale orders.

Do you accept wholesale orders?  I am very interested in partnering with shops that sell offerings made in the same spirit as those of Field Studies Editions. I also love to work with the Hospitality trade, providing attractive and affordable artwork to hotels, restaurants, spas, entertainment venues, etc.  Interior decorators love working with Field Studies Editions... my artwork reflects an aesthetic that is both current and timeless... they have the look that people want, not to mention that I am affordable, offer quick turnaround, and am happy to ship directly to the framer of your choice! I offer wholesale pricing to the trade on my prints (unfortunately I am not offering wholesale pricing on any jewelry items at this time).  If you think your clients would love my prints, then let's talk! Email me, Paul, personally at fieldstudieseditions@gmail.com for details! Wholesale orders are not eligible for free shipping, and actual shipping cost will be billed.

Can I return my print if I don't like it?  Each print is made-to-order and given the white glove treatment from start to finish. Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to resell any prints that are returned, so please understand that prints are non-returnable. Im here to answer any questions you may have before placing an order... contact me any time at fieldstudieseditions@gmail.com. If damage occurs in transit, please contact me right away so that I can provide a replacement.

Are your prints signed?  If you want them to be! I am proud of the prints that I offer, and am very happy to sign and date them lightly in pencil on the back of the image if you request it! Otherwise, your print will arrive unsigned.

Do you take custom orders? Maybe! It depends on the scale and scope of your project... feel free to inquire at fieldstudieseditions.com. Most images can be scaled to custom sizes and sometimes I can even alter colors to suit your needs. There may be additional fees involved, but I am happy to discuss your ideas!
