An Exceptionally Large, Finely Woven Vintage Navajo Wedding Basket.
When I saw this showstopper at a trading post near Ganado, AZ about 20 years ago I knew I had to have it!
I have enjoyed it so much over the years but am happy for it to find a new home. Measures an impressive 17.5” across (biggest one I’ve seen!) and is around 3” deep. Nice mellow, warm tones. Because this is large and finely woven with many coils, the pattern has a much more smooth and refined look than is common.
The condition is great; it is a vintage piece woven by a very skilled and patient weaver; the braided edge banding is very finely woven. One condition consideration is that I once used that blue, “sticky tack” material in 3 or 4 spots on the bottom edge toward the backside, to keep the basket from sliding forward on a shelf. Some of it got down into the basket crevices and I couldnt quite dig it all out, so you will see some of that residue down in the crevices in about 4 spots on the lower rim. Very faint and cant be seen at all from the from, and barely from the back but I wanted to point it out. I have tried to show it in close up in the photos.
